Parathyroid Surgery Technique

The minimally invasive technique we favor at the New York Center for Advanced Parathyroid Surgery is a focused lateral approach where a lateral mini-incision is made over the abnormal parathyroid gland after intraoperative localization with high resolution ultrasound.  Traditional 4 parathyroid gland neck exploration is a longer procedure that is used only if the abnormal parathyroid gland can not be localized before surgery.  Our approach leads to shorter surgical time, same-day surgery for most patients, and superior cosmetic results.
