Oregon Parathyroid Surgeons

The New York Center for Advanced Parathyroid Surgery is the premier center for minimally invasive parathyroid surgery. Patients come to us from Oregon - from Salem or Portland - and everywhere in the United States. The scenic Warwick Valley, located about one hour north of Manhattan, lends itself to speedy recuperation following your parathyroid surgery. With our advanced mini-incision parathyroid surgical technique, you will experience less operative time and less neck scarring. Most patients leave the same day as their surgery. With our advanced parathyroid imaging techniques, we have some of the highest parathyroid localization rates in the profession. Parathyroid surgery is our primary focus. This enables us to provide and maintain superior results while providing each patient with personalized care.

Effective Oregon Parathyroid Treatment

Because no medications or drugs can cure parathyroid disease or hyperparathyroidism, surgery is the only way to treat the condition. Removal of the parathyroid gland which is overproducing parathyroid hormone is the only known cure. Traditional parathyroid operation techniques require a large incision in the neck to locate and examine the four parathyroid glands located behind the thyroid. The tumorous gland is then located and removed. Patients that opt for traditional surgery usually require at least one night of hospitalization. In the end, the patient is left with a more prominent neck scar.

Performed as an outpatient procedure, Minimally invasive parathyroid surgery requires just a one-inch incision. Preoperative parathyroid imaging and localization is what allows a minimally invasive or "mini-incision" approach to the procedure. By locating the the tumor before the incision with preoperative imaging, we can avoid a larger incision required by a traditional approach. The minimally invasive urgery can be completed in less than half an hour, with just a 2cm incision made directly over the abnormal parathyroid gland.

In the end, scarring is minimal and best of all, patients can usually return home the same day.
