Pennsylvania Parathyroid Surgeons

The New York Center for Advanced Parathyroid Surgery is the premier center for minimally invasive parathyroid surgery. We operate on patients from Pennsylvania and throughout the Northeast. We are located approximately 1 hour north of Manhattan in the scenic Warwick Valley, New York. This serene environment lends itself to healing and recuperation. We use an advanced mini-incision surgical technique that leads to a smaller scar, less operative time, and enables you to go home the same day as your surgery. Our advanced parathyroid imaging techniques lead to the profession's highest parathyroid localization rates. We focus on only one type of surgery: Parathyroid Surgery. This enables us to maintain our superior results while providing personalized care for each and every patient we treat.

Effective PA Parathyroid Treatment

There is uniform agreement in the medical profession that persons diagnosed with primary hyperparathyroidism require surgery for removal of the abnormal parathyroid adenoma. The traditional parathyroid operation technique requires a large incision in the neck to locate and examine the four parathyroid glands located behind the thyroid. The tumorous gland is then located and removed. Patients that opt for traditional surgery usually require at least one night of hospitalization. In addition, the patient is left with a larger and more prominent neck scar.

Today, minimally invasive parathyroid surgery is an outpatient procedure requiring justa one-inch incision. The procedure can be performed in under half an hour. Preoperative parathyroid imaging and localization of the abnormal parathyroid tumor enables a minimally invasive or "mini-incision" approach to the parathyroid glands. Finding the tumor before incision allows us to make a smaller incision without the need to do a traditional neck exploration. A 2cm incision is made directly over the abnormal parathyroid gland. Because over 90% of patients with primary hyperparathyroidism have a single parathyroid adenoma, it's usually not necessary to explore all four glands.

In the end, scarring is minimal and best of all, patients can usually return home the same day.

Expert Parathyroid Surgery by an Expert Team

Dr. Lawrence Gordon, MD, FACS is a board certified Head and Neck Surgeon who specializes in parathyroid and thyroid surgery. He is a parathyroid surgeon with over 15 years of experience with many different modalities of parathyroid surgery. Also trained in plastic surgery of the head and neck, Dr. Gordon places incision lines for maximal cosmetic benefit. He is one of the few parathyroid surgeons fully trained in all modalities of parathyroid disease surgery.

Our diagnostic imaging team truly differentiates us as a center of excellence in parathyroid surgical care. Our ability to perform the Minimally Invasive Parathyroid Surgery is enabled by the accurate localization of the parathyroid adenoma before surgery. Our operating room team is here to help you prepare for surgery and to care for you after your surgery. A caring group of nurses is here to ensure your safety and comfort.

More than 90% of our parathyroid surgeries are completed in under than 30 minutes. This enables patients a shorter hospital stay. However, the length of the procedure is less important than ensuring that your surgery is performed safely.

Serving Pennsylvania and Beyond

We operate on patients from Pennsylvania and throughout the Northeast. Since you are traveling from out of town, we recommend that you spend a minimum of two nights locally: the night before your surgery and the night after your surgery. We have discount arrangements with local fine quality Inns that attend to our patients.

Before you arrive, our office team will work with you to put together your laboratory and imaging information before your arrival from Pennsylvania. To help ensure that your stay near our center is comfortable and enjoyable, we provide a variety of concierge services to assist in travel and lodging accommodations.

WE ACCEPT AND WILL WORK WITH ALL MAJOR UNITED STATES INSURANCE PLANS.
