Tennessee Parathyroid Surgeons
The New York Center for Advanced Parathyroid Surgery is the premier center for minimally invasive parathyroid surgery. Patients come to us from all over Tennessee - from Nashville to Memphis - and throughout the United States. Located about one hour north of Manhattan, the Warwick Valley's serene environment lends itself to quick recuperation following your parathyroid surgery. Our advanced mini-incision surgical technique leads to less operative time, less scarring, and enables most patients leave the same day as their surgery. With our advanced parathyroid imaging techniques, we have some of the highest parathyroid localization rates in the profession. Because parathyroid surgery is our primary focus, we maintain superior results while providing each patient with personalized care.
Effective Tennessee Parathyroid Treatment
No drugs or medications can cure hyperparathyroidism. The only way to treat parathyroid disease is to remove the parathyroid gland surgically. With a traditional parathyroid operation, a long neck incision is required. Then the surgeon examines the four parathyroid glands located behind the thyroid. The tumorous gland that is overproducing parathyroid hormone is then found and removed. With this technique, the patient is left with scarring on neck. Recovery takes longer, and the patient usually require at least a night of hospitalization.
Performed as an outpatient procedure, Minimally invasive parathyroid surgery requires just a one-inch incision. Preoperative parathyroid imaging and localization is what allows a minimally invasive or "mini-incision" approach to the procedure. By locating the the tumor before the incision with preoperative imaging, we can avoid a larger incision required by a traditional approach. The minimally invasive urgery can be completed in less than half an hour, with just a 2cm incision made directly over the abnormal parathyroid gland.
You'll find that scarring is minimal and best of all, you can usually return home the same day. Following surgery, scar appearance improves over the next six months. In the end, most scars are light and difficult to indentify.
